Branch History
The branch was formed in August 1984 by Christine Wren, a young business woman, who was concerned about the welfare of cats in this part of SE Essex. Originally called the Canvey Island Group, the branch changed its name to encompass the whole area.
As Christine lived on Canvey lsland, she called it the Canvey Island Group. However it was realised that this title was misleading as the group's boundaries stretched as far afield as Hullbridge. As our main area covered Rayleigh, it was suggested by the Regional Director that the group bear the town's name. So, we became the Rayleigh, Castle Point and District Group.
Today the area we cover includes Canvey Island, Benfleet, Thundersley, Hadleigh, Rayleigh, Hockley, Hullbridge and Lower Hockley.
Money is tight and, to raise funds, we organise various events, details of which can be found on our Events page so if you are able to assist in organising an event in your area, please contact us.
We are also looking for volunteers. If you can help foster cats and kittens; transport and collect jumble; take and collect cats to and from the vets; store jumble .. in fact, anything that would help, please contact any of our volunteers.
