Sponsorship

Rayleigh, Castle Point and District Branch of Cats Protection re-homes unwanted cats and kittens from this area and every cat costs us something - in fact an adult cat leaving our care can cost the Branch at least £150 (neutering, vaccinations, microchipping, worming, de-fleaing, other medical treatment (such as dental work), food and cat litter).  Some of these costs are covered by the donation people give us when providing a much needed home for the cat but we rely on fundraising and donations to cover the rest of costs.

Some cats in our care are extremely difficult to rehome - few people want to take on a cat that is elderly or has a life-limiting medical condition - but you can help them in the meantime by making a regular donation of however much you choose to the Branch.  In return, Maureen, our Sponsorship Secretary, will keep you updated on how the cats in our care are doing.  Maureen can be contacted on 01702 296749.

Allison will be at our larger events with our 'Sponsorship Desk' and would be pleased to show you pictures and information about the cats.

Bonnie (as seen on the Image Gallery)
Bonnie has been in our care for about 3 years. She is a female and is approximately   5 years old, being originally reported as a stray. Bonnie is very nervous and the slightest change of routine upsets her greatly. However, we are hoping that she will find a gentle understanding home.  In the meantime, she has a settled lifestyle with her fosterer.

Sally (as seen on the Image Gallery)
Sally is a very elderly dark, long haired tabby female.  She was found wandering around, very disorientated, thin, unkempt and infested with fleas.  She was brought into our care after a member of the public reporting having found her as a stray.

It was after she was examined by our vet that Sally was assessed as being blind, later being diagnosed as being caused by high blood pressure after undergoing various blood tests.

She is currently living with her foster carers who don't believe she has been blind for very long because she was very confused initially.  However, she has now settled into her new environment and is putting on weight.  She finds her food and water without problems, uses her litter tray properly and sleeps on a bed in her room.

Robin (see photos of him on the Sponsorship Image Gallery)
Its a mystery: a large ginger and white butch male cat, called Robin, lived at the bottom of a garden in Hockley, apparently for three or four years.  The person who was feeding Robin reported him as having very sore eyes.  Cats Protection took him to the vets where he had two teeth removed, was castrated and had his back shaved where there was some messy stuff!

He is a middle aged gentle and friendly cat who has in-turning eye lashes.  His fosterer has been treating his eyes and not once has he struggled or resisted.  He loves sitting on one's lap, purring and kneading you, in fact Robin would stay all day on your lap, he is very clean and a pleasure to look after.

The mystery is how a cat living rough for years can be so loving and friendly.

All these cats, apart from Robin at the moment, are also available for homing, but are likely, due to their various incapacities/ behavioural issues, to be with us on a long term basis.

If you can help, with a regular donation of any amount, please contact our Sponsorship Secretary, Maureen on 01702 296749.    At our larger events, please ask for Allison who would be pleased to show you pictures and information about the cats.
